After winning the competition for the past two consecutive years, we’ve secured victory for a third straight year. This impressive three-year winning streak means the traveling trophy now permanently belongs to Beatitudes Campus. This achievement reflects the dedication of our residents to maintaining active, healthy lifestyles and the strength of our wellness programs. The trophy stands as a testament to our community’s commitment to fitness and friendly competition.
In other campus news, you may have noticed a welcome upgrade in the Bistro.
New tabletops have been installed, refreshing the space where so many of our residents gather for meals, coffee, and conversation. The updated surfaces provide a more pleasant dining environment for everyone who uses this popular gathering spot.
For our Lifelong Learners program, please note a schedule adjustment.
The “How It Works” session has been moved to the next Lifelong Learners
meeting. We’ve encountered ongoing technical difficulties in the Life Center that have prevented us from properly projecting slides for presentations. Our team is working to resolve these issues, but rather than compromise the quality of the educational experience, we’ve opted to reschedule. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through these technical challenges to ensure our Lifelong Learners sessions maintain their high standards.

Brought to you by Chat GPT

September 10, 2025 - Robert Andrews

Report for Communications Committee for Sept 10

I’d like to talk first about the shifting of the Meeting rooms. Donna covered it very well last week, but as a resident I’d like to point out. Some have criticized management for failure to communicate. It’s a two way street though. Some of the problems have happened because of failure of groups to notify catering and facilities of an event you have decided to host. These recurring events need to be entered into the Works Hub calendar to avoid conflicts.

A few examples have already surfaced. There is a breakfast group that meets in the Plaza Club where we will now be hosting Creating our Future Studio. There are Rumikub, Bridge, and Chickenfoot games that occur on a regular basis. My own Communications meeting was calendared, but has been displaced because of the LifeLong Learners Spanish class. We may have to make concessions, but the dust will settle, and a peaceful life here at Beatitudes will continue.

That being said…

Communications is now meeting in the Plaza Club, and we meet at 10:30 on the third Tuesday of each month. The next meeting is six days from now – Tuesday, September 16. After many years, Herb Komnick is retiring from the Communications Committee, so we will be having cake. As it turns out, this will also be Bob Morgan’s last meeting. He is moving back to Canada to be with his family.

The latest printed Telephone Directory was January 2025. We are working on an update, but until that time, you can see a current directory in Uniguest that is updated at the beginning of every month. Go to Publications – Residents – and Resident Census.

For new residents and team members, there is a WayNav program on Uniguest and at www.Meteors.net – you simply plug in an apartment number or destination name, and it shows you a map pin of where you want to go. You can now order “to go” orders from Buckwald’s, but you must make that order through the Buckwald’s dining staff, as the registers do not have Buckwald’s items loaded.

We are still having some delivery packages left outside of the gates. We will be posting signs directing the delivery people to the main gate.

A sign has been requested directing visitors that come when the Welcome Center is opened, to exit through Plaza View, as the Welcome Center is sometimes locked after guests have arrived. This is especially necessary since Elaine’s is now opened on Saturday until 7:00. Welcome Center doors are currently locked at 4:30 on Saturday.

Shredding bins were discussed. United States Postal Service packages can go to the Welcome Center.

April 9, 2025 - Robert Andrews

RESIDENT COUNCIL REPORT

Communications Committee Report

to The Residents Council – April 9, 2025

This report will be just a bit longer than usual, so brace yourself.

The Communications Committee meets on the third Monday of each month at 10:00. The next meeting is April 21. We are now meeting in Elaine’s rather than the board rooms. As always anyone is invited to attend as an active member or as an observer. I am not sure where we will meet after the Buckwald’s change-over.

NOTE: Michelle said staff is meeting with all who are scheduled for meetings or gatherings in all rooms affected.

Some of you may have known that our new tech guru Sam Williams is the husband of Mollie Heiden, and both are the proud parents of a newborn baby boy. Sullivan Louis Williams was 8lb 6 oz. – 21.5 inches long. This means a lot more to the women than them men. My question was did he have ten fingers and ten toes.

Anyway, Sam is taking the week off. He will be back Monday. Till then, the Communications Committee is staffing the help desk from 12 until 2:00 through Friday.

Sam’s new office will eventually be Plaza South, apartment 116, right next to Oasis Physical Therapy, Community Matters – previously Community Engagement, and Curana Health.

The TV Guide is taking shape. The biggest complaint was that the Roadrunner Brief played at 8:00 am. As it turns out, most of us (myself included) are frequently sleeping at 8:00. It’s been moved to 11:30, and the music previously schedule for 11:30 is now playing at 8:00. TV Guides are at the information station, and today only, in the back of the Life Center.

The Beatitudes Design Studio has a new name: Creating our Future. It is more descriptive of what we are trying to accomplish, which is propose new programs and directions for The Campus. Michelle and Donna have agreed to act as our Staff Liasons. For now, it is happening every Thursday morning at 9:00, but this too may change.

A quick note about Summer. I took an infrared temperature reading of the asphalt last year when the temperature was 105º – the pavement was 156º

Please keep this in mind when walking your pets. Walk in the early morning or late evening, or stay in the shade or on the grass.

Thanks to Bob Bales for suggesting that Uniguest implement both extension numbers and the entire phone number on slides. Some of our new residents do not have a land line, so just the extension does not give them any usable information. All of them have not yet been converted, but we are working on it.

Thanks to Ruth Crowley for organizing visits from the Library Bookmobile. It visits the campus every third Friday at 10:00. The next visit is April 18.

On April 22 we have two great events. Carole Beard is holding a foot clinic, of special interest to those with Type 2 Diabetes. That conflicts slightly with the trip to the Sikh Gourdwara hosted by Spiritual Life. The Foot Clinic will be recorded and put on Channel 1-2.

April 25 at 4:00 will be a Street Fair. The last day of sit-down dinner service in Buckwald’s at the Life Center will be Friday May 9. The first day of the New Buckwald’s in the Town Plaza will be Monday May 19, which will include both lunch and dinner menus.

The following sentence WAS given at the meeting.

Bistro hours and menu will remain unchanged. Initially, it appeared as if they were maintaining operations in Florida and Georgia, but I checked the website just before this meeting, and the entire site has been taken down, so they did go under.

Efforts began immediately to get a replacement for on-site tech support. Exactly what form that may take is not yet known. Beatitudes asked Communications to step in and help out until a replacement is found. We will be staffing the GroovyTek desk, which they kindly left behind, weekdays from 12:00 until 2:00.

Thanks to Kathy Miller, Bill Chase, Chuck Beaujon, Judy Chernick, and Bob Morgan who will be helping to fill that role.

Any support requiring access to your apartment should go through Jon Schilling, who is the head of Community Engagement. You can reach him by dialing zero, and you will be connected.

Meanwhile, if you don’t have Uniguest on your phone or laptop computer, Communications is taking walk-in tech visits from noon until 2:00 Monday through Friday. Jennifer Long is our Media Specialist, and was out due to unforeseen circumstances, so we have had to make due with our existing resources. This has exposed some weaknesses in our process, that Community Engagement is addressing. We’d like to thank Ray Gonzales and Jon Schilling for Roadrunner production during this time. Jen is now back on Campus, and the music is back on Channel 1-2.

Meanwhile, if you don’t have Uniguest on your phone or computer, GroovyTek takes walk-in tech visits from noon until 2:00 Monday through Friday.
